Easy. Peasy. Four Strand Plait

Download Recipe

Four Strand Plait...

This can be a tricky one, but if you have already mastered the two strand plait this should be no problem! Below you will find our easy step by step instructions on how to not only complete this plait, but also do a good job of it at the same time! You can of course download the step by step guide as well by clicking the "Download Recipe" button above!

Process
Follow these simple four stages to make your very own four strand plait. If you get stuck, use the pictures to help you check. You can scale your dough at any weight, however we think these look great in a smaller size, so scale our dough at 160g generally. This means that each strand is 40g each, which when added together makes 160g total for the bread.

Step 1
Roll out four pieces of dough to an equal length and arrange as per the opposite picture. Press the ends together in the centre. Tip; Its really important that they are all the same length so take your time on this stage to make it easier later!

Step 2
Bring strand 1 down and strand 3 up and over the horizontal strand. Check that your dough looks like the image opposite before you move onto the next step.

Step 3
Bring strand 4 to the right over strand 1 and strand 2 to the left over strand 4. Check to see that it looks like the picture opposite before moving on.

Step 4
Go back to "Step 1" and continue braiding in this manner until all of the strands are used up. Then press the ends together. Your finished plait should look like the picture opposite.

Congratulations on making your "Four Strand Plait" which hopefully looks something like the one in the picture above. These can be topped with seeds or simply egg washed. Don't forget to prove your dough before you bake it.
